More than a month after her defeat in the first round of the presidential election, Valérie Pécresse has finally reimbursed her campaign expenses. Having collected 1,679,001 votes, or 4.78% of the votes cast in the first round, the candidate of the Republicans (LR), could not claim reimbursement by the State of the sums invested in her race for the Elysée. “Personally in debt to the tune of five million euros”, she had therefore called for donations on April 25, 2022.

Tuesday, May 31, 2022, she posted a video on her Twitter account, announcing that her loan could be repaid:

“I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for having responded massively to the call for donations that I launched on April 25. Thanks to you, thanks to the support of the Republicans, the costs of my campaign for the presidential are now fully funded. And the personal loan that I had taken out will be repaid”.

Thanks to her call for donations, Valérie Pécresse received 3.3 million euros from individuals. To complete the missing 1.8 million euros, candidate LR received 1.2 million euros from her party as well as 600,000 euros from the state. This last sum “corresponding to the second installment of the lump sum reimbursement for candidates who did not have 5% of the votes”, reports Femme Actuelle.

If the president of the Île-de-France region refused a donation from the former president of the Republic, Nicolas Sarkozy, she did not refuse that of her husband, Jérôme Pécresse. He would have paid him the maximum authorized sum, ie 4,600 euros.
