Gianluca Scamacca scored five Serie A goals in this season

AC Milan lost the chance to rise to the top of Serie A after crashing to a shocking 3-1 home defeat to Sassuolo. This gives Napoli the chance to climb to the summit.

After recovering from Alessio Romgnoli’s 21-minute header, Sassuolo was able to win the San Siro. Simon Kjaer scored his own goal and Domenico Berardi made a solo effort.

Milan finished with 10 men, after Romagnoli was shown a straight card for taking out Gregoire Defrel. Milan is now level on 32 points with league leader Napoli, who hosts Lazio in Sunday’s late match.

Milan’s rivals Inter Milan have suffered two consecutive league defeats. Atalanta is now three points behind, having defeated Juventus in Turin on Sunday.

On Friday, Coach Stefano Pioli signed a contract extension for Milan until June 2023, with an option to extend it by another year. This led to a number of changes that resulted in a stunning 1-0 Champions League win against Atletico Madrid.

Olivier Giroud’s and Ante Rubbic’s injuries led to Zlatan Ibrahimovic starting up front, supported by Brahim Diaz, Rafael Leao and Alexis Saelemaekers. Tiemoue Bakoko made his debut in the midfield alongside Ismael Benjaminnacer.

Bakayoko was responsible for Sassuolo’s equalizer, which occurred just three minutes after Milan took the lead. He lazily gave the ball to Giacomo Raspadori, who then allowed Scamacca to smash it off the bar.

Scamacca was also the key to the goal that put Sassuolo ahead in the 33rd minutes. He blasted a close-range effort that Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan couldn’t push past Kjaer and into his net.

Berardi added the cherry to the cake by making Romagnoli look silly with his nifty dribbling before scoring the third goal.

Andriy Shevchenko earlier earned his first point as Genoa’s coach by drawing a goalless match at Udinese.

Genoa were without Mattia destro, their key striker for over a month. The away team was also lacking firepower despite playing more at the Dacia Arena.

His team will host Milan on Wednesday, where he scored 175 goals and won the 2003 Champions League title.
