5-G-network: ARD and ZDF want to get involved in the mobile

The Older ones among us are familiar with such a television-viewing habits since the year dot and maintain it sometimes, even today. For the Younger set, such rituals are not more than a faint Echo from a time before the digital media era. Libraries in emancipating itself from the linear time grid according to schedule, mobile screens make the stationary large-caliber competition, different networks together to run in a terminal.

The combination of a taste of the broadcasters for the time being, only partial solutions – with the HbbTV Standard, for example, the simple switching between classical broadcasting and Web-content. Or, following the example of the subscription channel Sky, which in the broadcast mode, the broadcast programs go to button in the pause function, then, fed from an Internet connection, the Transmission in the desired time interval to continue.

This all sounds a bit archaic in comparison to scenarios, where media infrastructure planners tinkering for quite some time. 5G, the next Generation of mobile communications, will allow for more elegant Transitions between linear broadcast and interactive content on or between mobile and stationary screen – the best way that the exchange works completely seamlessly, and, if it takes place on the same screen, not at all noticeable.
