A parking space is for sale in Amsterdam for 495,000 euros. This makes it more expensive than many apartments in the Netherlands.

In Amsterdam, a parking space is on the market for 495,000 euros, reports n-tv. It is an 18 square meter area in a building complex near Vondelpark in the well-known museum district. According to real estate agent J. Heule, the parking lot is “located in the most famous and exclusive shopping street in the Netherlands.” As an alternative, the broker offers to rent the parking space for 750 euros per month.

The reason for the high costs could be the increasing lack of space in the country. According to a study from 2023, there is a shortage of around 390,000 apartments in the Netherlands. Due to the lack of living space, prices are constantly rising and affordable apartments are hard to find anymore.

According to RTL, the situation is so precarious that the average price for an apartment in the Netherlands is around 430,000 euros. This means that this parking space is actually more expensive than many apartments in the country.

On the real estate agent’s website you can even find an apartment that, at 400,000 euros, is cheaper than the parking space. It is also located in Amsterdam, but is in relative need of renovation.

The housing shortage is also serious in Germany. The traffic light coalition had planned for 400,000 new apartments, but only managed to reach 260,100 in 2023. This is reported by the Federal Statistical Office.
