A team of researchers from the british University of Manchester and Imperial College London has achieved something that until now had not been possible to: quantify the flux of material from space that falls on the Earth. And the result has been spectacular: every year our planet suffers the impact of 17,000 meteorites.
In an article just published in Geology, Geoffrey Evatt and his co-workers explain that current estimates of the material alien that falls on us “is based on monitoring networks of balls of fire of short duration or in search of meteorites by terrestrial very limited spatially”.
that’s why, until now had not been possible to make precise estimates of the amount of fall of meteorites.
