The confinement brought with it a boom in the consumption of food and other goods considered essential. An increase that sometimes brought with it a rise in prices of some products, although there were also falls. The shopping basket of households was filled more than ever . But the state of alarm was also the stoppage of the sales of nonessential goods, at least physically. This has had an impact on the CPI, which leads chained four consecutive months with negative annual rates. Yesterday, the INE released the final data for July, which closed with -0,6%. In addition, in the seventh month of the year, the INE reported that was already available for acquisition by the households the entire basket of products in the CPI. In this way, the methods of estimation of price that are designed for application in an exceptional manner during the months of April, may and June are no longer used, returning to the usual methods.
So since yesterday you can already know, according to the traditional formula, how are to evolve the prices of the products in Spain. So far this year, the general index has fallen 1.6% . On the one hand, what has come down in price has been the liquid fuel, with a decrease of 26.4%. On the other side of the scale are the tour packages for national, with a rise of 10.8%. This increase may be due to the increase in the demand of domestic tourism by the health crisis. By categories, the ups and downs of the price are as follows:
– Food and non-alcoholic beverages . Perhaps the group of greatest importance during the confinement for the reasons explained above. We follow the olive oil, with a fall of 3.7%, other meats, with a decrease of 3.3%, and legumes and vegetables fresh or chilled, except potatoes and tubers, falling 2.6%. Spirits and liqueurs grow in price by 2.2% so far this year, while the wine makes it 2.1%. In terms of tobacco, cigars, and cigarettes go up 1.4% and a slight 0.1 per cent, despite the lower consumption.
-clothing and footwear . The fashion industry is the one that has lowered the prices in general in the year so far. Remember that the shops had to be closed in the landfill, so that the accumulation of stocks has led to this price drop. So, the men’s clothing fall to 17.7%, that of women was 16.5% and the infant and children by 13.6%. In the footwear, the more small falls 13.3%, women 11.3%, and of man at a rate of 9.3%.
-Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels . As has been said above, liquid fuels are the most fall off all products. In addition, the gas and electricity also make it, with a decrease of 8.1% and 2.4%. -Transport . The price of petrol and diesel has been one of the main reasons for which prices have fallen in general. In the alarm state, the influx of cars was very low so the prices plummeted. In particular, the diesel is a 13.1% cheaper than the beginning of the year, while gasoline falls to 10.2%. Cars d second-hand also fall to 4.2%, but the new ones go up 1%. Motorcycles fall 0.8%, but the bicycle up that same percentage. In terms of the price of transport, the flight national grow 3.7%, while the international plummet 11.9% by the closing of borders. -Other services . Jewelry and bisuterías were the products that rose the price, with a 8.7% increase. There are also insurance related to health and housing, which grew by 4.8 and 2.9%, respectively.
