It is a key face of French fiction. However, Philippe Bas was not destined to make a career in comedy. While he is back in November on TF1 in Le Sentier des Loups, the actor who is celebrating his 49th birthday today looks back on his acting debut for Planet.

“It goes back a little while already”, first tells us the actor. “I had an attraction for films and theatre. I was quite receptive to these things and fate made me want to get closer to it out of curiosity”. It was then in the mid-1990s that Philippe Bas entered free class at Cours Florent.

“I took acting lessons and I liked it right away,” admits the actor who is keen on martial arts and combat sports. “It made me change my path, because I always wanted to play sports”. For Philippe Bas, this artistic vocation allowed him to find a balance with the sports discipline, notably practicing karate and MMA where he worked hard to pay for his training and compete. “It was a similar parallel because I was working on the side to pay for my acting lessons.”

If this great sportsman stopped school quite early, by his own admission, Philippe Bas had the opportunity to discover comedy in its infancy. “Taking acting lessons allowed me to have access to great authors”, confides to us the one who started with Francis Huster in 1994 in The Trojan War will not take place.

The following year, Philippe Bas turned to television, landing several roles in Navarro and Julie Lescaut. “It was my dream. I was inspired by all the great French or foreign actors”, assures the dark quadra today, adding to his career. “I started in the theater then I was able to do a lot of different TV movies and cinema”. After playing Commander Thomas Rocher in Profiling for nearly a decade, actor Philippe Bas will also return to cinemas in 2023 with Fanny Ardant and John Malkovich.

While waiting to unveil his projects to the public, Philippe Bas keeps a nostalgic eye on his career and does not hesitate to share his childhood memories on Instagram. From his sporting years to his television debut, the 40-year-old has been transformed on screen. Here is an anthology through our slideshow.
