Admitted to the Dijon University Hospital on August 23, 2022 for a broken leg, Claudette, 77, will never leave the hospital again. A few days later, on August 31, the patient passed away. According to her children, it was hunger that got the better of her.

Upon her arrival at the establishment, Claudette must undergo an operation, which is postponed several times. Day after day, the patient woman. But his daily life in the hospital would have very quickly taken a dramatic turn.

Indeed, according to her children, the doctors would have decided to keep the patient fasting for her operation. She would only have had the right to eat vegetable broth on the evening of August 24. “It was the only food she had until her death,” they report.

Jean and Murielle, Claudette’s children, say they had her “every day” on the phone. The son thus explains to BFMTV that his mother would have asked the nurses several times if she could eat. “They told him ‘no, you have to be fasting, you’re going to have surgery tomorrow.’ And that for several days“, he declared to our colleagues. “On the door of his room, there was the painting ‘fasting’, continuously”, adds Murielle.

This is how, on the night of August 28 to 29, the family was informed that the 77-year-old woman was transferred to intensive care for “complete dehydration”, continues her daughter. A few days later, she passed away. After that, the children decide to file a complaint against the Dijon University Hospital and claim to have had no response or apology from the hospital. “I asked them what happened. They were never able to tell us,” regrets Jean.

“We don’t expect much, it won’t bring our mother back, but we don’t want other families to find themselves in this distress.”, they justify.
