Wave of freshness in France. After a hot summer, autumn will fortunately be less dry than expected. From Friday September 16, 2022, an air mass will descend towards the country, which will create a contrast with the hot and humid air mass which is already stagnating in the territory. Régis Crépet, meteorologist for La Chaîne Météo, explains to us: “We were between 8 to 10°C compared to seasonal norms, and this weekend, with the drop in temperatures, we will drop 3 to 4°C below the seasonal averages”.

Where will it be the “chiliest”? In some departments, the drop will be particularly significant, and the mercury will sometimes drop into the negative… In our slideshow below, discover the list of the 15 departments where it will be the coldest next week. The information provided is based on Météo France forecasts for Tuesday, September 20, 2022 in the morning. They were consulted on September 14 at 2 p.m. and are subject to change.

“The transition will be brutal, but this wave of freshness will not be exceptional,” says Régis Crépet. This sudden drop in temperatures is characteristic of the off-seasons: “It was rather the heat anomaly that was remarkable compared to the averages”, continues the meteorologist. The month of September is indeed characteristic of these first cold snaps and the first white frosts of the season. While it may be a bit early, “it won’t be remarkable either,” says the forecaster.
