The minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and co-operation, Arancha González Laya, h denied on Wednesday that it has submitted its candidacy for the World Trade Organization (WTO) and has been “entrusted to the 150 percent” that the vice-president Nadia Calviño may be chosen to preside over the Eurogroup. “I don’t know that you have submitted an application in my name, I am committed to my country and with the direction of the foreign policy of the EU and the development cooperation of my country, that’s where I’m getting the urge”, has underlined the minister when questioned in the course of an informative breakfast of Europa Press, the same day that ends the deadline for submission of nominations.

Gonzalez Laya has explained that, after spending more than 20 years working abroad, last January he returned to Spain to get to the front of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , so that it will work “to contribute to multilateralism from Spain”.

In terms of the possibilities that the third vice-chairman and minister of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, Nadia Calviño, may have to occupy the Presidency of the Europgrupo, González Laya has emphasized that it relies “a 150 per cent on the strength of the candidacy”.

To the minister of Foreign Affairs, Calviño submits a nomination “extremely strong” and is “the best person to lead the Europgrupo”, an opinion that has been shown safe to share “the great majority” of countries.

Calviño presents “a vision of great strength, which I’m sure will recognize tomorrow,” he assured.
