Three competitors unite to ask the French to reduce their energy consumption. This situation may seem lunar at first sight. Yet that is what is happening now.

On June 26, 2022, Catherine MacGregor, CEO of Engie, Jean-Bernard Lévy, Chairman and CEO of EDF, Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies published a joint column in the Journal du Dimanche. This calls on the entire population to reduce their consumption of electricity, oil, fuel and gas to limit the risk of shortages and inflation.

According to them, this situation stems in particular from the drop in Russian gas deliveries, a direct consequence of the war in Ukraine. Electricity production capacities in Europe are also “in tension following national choices or for maintenance programs”, specifies the tribune.

The seriousness of the situation would be such that it “threatens our social and political cohesion and impacts too heavily on the purchasing power of families”, explain the authors further.

For these reasons, the bosses of the three energy giants are appealing to the French: “We must initiate a major energy efficiency program and a national waste hunt. The effort must be immediate, collective and massive. Each gesture account. And make no mistake: saving energy means increasing purchasing power and also reducing greenhouse gas emissions.”

It is therefore important to reduce energy consumption. To do this, adopt these ten daily gestures now.
