Unheard of since the 1970s! Faced with its worst energy crisis in 50 years, according to TF1, France and its citizens are preparing for a particularly tense winter. Everyone makes their reservations while waiting…

It is because the French are worried about power cuts. The prospect of being in the dark and without heating this winter does not seem to delight households in France. So, to face it calmly, everyone buys enough to produce their own energy.

In a Bricorama in Yvelines, generator sales have doubled in the space of two months, explains the television channel. This is also the case with solar lamps or candles, ideal auxiliary solutions to see there despite the night. “We quadrupled the turnover on these products. It’s quite surprising, but we’re back to basics”, comments the store manager on TF1.

In addition, not sure that the eco-gestures and the “energy sobriety” wanted by President Emmanuel Macron are enough to get through the winter without power cuts. If the energy were to run out, some departments would be much more exposed to the “rotating load shedding” planned by the government…

The reason why they are most exposed? Their dantesque consumption of electricity is at the heart of the problem. According to data from Data.gouv.fr, over the year 2020, they spent a lot of energy… Is yours one of them?

To find out, Planet has produced the slideshow below which lists the departments where the most electricity is consumed.
