The Covid-19 epidemic is far from behind us. According to data from the National Public Health Agency, there were nearly 80,000 new cases in 24 hours as of June 12, 2022, or 286.5% in seven days. The positivity rate, too, jumped this week, reaching 19.1% on June 9, 2022. The figures are also worrying on the side of hospitalizations, the organization listing nearly 2,500 admissions over the last seven days (7 .7%), including 306 in critical care (12.9%).

Faced with this epidemic rebound, a fear is emerging among scientists: a seventh wave of Covid-19. Quoted by France Info, the infectiologist Karine Lacombe is sounding the alarm: “We must monitor because the hospital is under tension. We have a glaring lack of staff”.

While the Omicron subvariants – BA4 and BA5 – are less dangerous than their predecessors, and current numbers are much lower than in previous waves, they still pose a risk to those most at risk, immunocompromised and unvaccinated people. These strains of Covid-19 are gaining ground throughout Europe, and are already in the majority in several countries such as Switzerland.

What about in France? How is the virus evolving in the four corners of the country? In our slideshow below, discover the departments where the Covid-10 is circulating the fastest at the moment. To make this selection, Planet bases itself on the figures of Covid Tracker which lists the departments where the evolution of the incidence rate on June 10, 2022 is equal to or greater than 40%.
