The Covid-19 coronavirus continues to cause concern. And for good reason ! The incidence rate is on the rise again in (very) many departments and is even quite high in many areas of French territory. Other indicators also call for caution, reports Le Journal des Femmes on its website: hospitalizations resulting from a SaRS-COV2 infection are up 108% on June 9, 2022 and compared to the previous week, inform our colleagues. In all and for all, can we read on the last bulletin of Public Health France, some 53,802 new cases have been identified.
Fortunately, it is also possible to temper such figures. Admittedly, the incidence increased by 13% over one week – the positivity rate increased by 16%. But it should also be remembered that these data also include the catch-up of Pentecost Monday, a public holiday. They are therefore most likely swollen. Small comfort, perhaps, given recent findings about the outbreak.
As Planet recently explained, two new variants have been identified and could explain the epidemic progression observed today. These are subentities of Omicron, called BA4 and BA5, both of which are believed to be more contagious than previous variants of the virus.
In addition, underlines Le Parisien, the WHO does not rule out the thesis of a lab leak… and therefore calls for “more in-depth” studies. Experts appointed by the body believe that the track deserves “further research”. Their preliminary report, they say, however, is not intended to “bring definitive conclusions about the origins of SaRS-COV2”.
