Retired soccer star played in a jersey swap to show her transition into the next stage of her life.

Carli Lloyd’s legendary career came to an end. A new chapter began Tuesday night with one jersey change during her last game with the U.S women’s national soccer team.

In the 66th minute, the soccer star was standing ovation and removed her jersey with “Lloyd”, to reveal one with “Hollins”. Hollins is her husband of five year, Brian Hollins. She closes out the Carli Lloyd, soccer superstar, chapter and begins the Carli Hollins.

It’s been very emotional. Lloyd spoke about the end of her national team career, according to ESPN. It’s been an incredible journey, and I gave everything I had. Now I can move on to the next chapter.

Lloyd, 39, talked to TODAY about her plans to have a family with Hollins, and to rekindle her relationship with her extended family and parents after having been estranged for 12 years. She said that she is happy that they are now in the same place and that everyone feels good about it.

Two-time Olympic gold medalist and two time World Cup champion, she finished her national team career having scored 134 goals and had the second-most international caps behind Kristine Lilly, a retired U.S. star.

An ode to her endurance was made by Nike cleats that were custom-made with the words “1987” & “2021” on them, and “Better Every Day” printed inside.

New Jersey native Lindsey Horan has now passed on the torch to her No. Lindsey Horan, another USWNT star has taken the No. 10 jersey. The No. The No. 10 jersey is traditionally awarded to the best player on the national team.

Horan posted a picture of herself holding Lloyd’s jersey on Instagram Monday, writing “To wear number 10 for our national team has been my dream ever since I was little.”

I never imagined it would feel this way… Carli’s passing this jersey to me was one the most memorable moments in my life. It truly was a gift. I have learned from you what it takes to be consistent, give all to your team, put your head down, work hard and never stop learning. You are a role model to me, and I cannot thank you enough. I pledge to wear this jersey with pride every time I don it and not stop working. But, I can’t wait to celebrate you in a few days. Carlaaa, thank you so much for everything.

Lloyd has not yet played her last game of soccer. She still has some games for Gotham FC in National Women’s Soccer League before she takes on Mrs. Hollins.
