Ghent –

An 89-year-old man who was accused of sexual assault of two dementia residents from the care home where he was staying has been sentenced to 18 months in prison on one or more occasions. That is, the Ghent court of first instance to decide.

The facts, this happened in 2018, at a retirement home in East-Flanders, belgium. As a registered nurse, was a witness of the facts, but on the other, the incident there were no witnesses. The accused denied both charges and claimed that the statements made by the women due to their dementia are not reliable.

The Public Prosecutor’s office has had a prison sentence of 18 months, with the delay sought, and the court imposed that sentence as well. The accused, who in the meantime was transferred to a different institution, they need to be treated for his sexual issues.

The man may still appeal against the sentence.
