There are plenty of different reasons why a business would require construction equipment. More often than not, most companies that make use of construction equipment handle business from project to project – something that can get quite difficult if you are not careful with your money. The more projects a business takes on, the keener they are to look out for the bottom line.

It is the main reason why most types of construction equipment are rented rather than bought. Lancashire Plant hire sees plenty of business renting equipment out, and it is easy to see why. That said, here are five construction equipment items which are better rented than bought.

  1. Excavators

Considering the fact that large construction equipment such as excavators can easily weigh around fifteen to twenty tons, storage and maintenance are constant issues. The price of renting an excavator is also merely a fraction of what you might pay to purchase one new – which goes double for the larger and more adaptable models. Instead of worrying about purchasing an excavator, renting one will eliminate many of the issues that present when you buy a brand-new excavator.

  1. Scissor lifts

Considering that the scissor lift is not the most expensive of construction equipment, you might be tempted to purchase one new instead of renting. If you are always in need of scissor lifts, it might not be a bad idea. That said, the price for renting a scissor lift even for several weeks is dirt cheap, making it one of the more popular choices for renting.

  1. Skid loaders

You might think that with the size of skid loaders it likely will not cost too much to purchase brand new. However, it is one of the pricier pieces of construction equipment when you consider its size. Fortunately, it is much more reasonable when rented, and considering that most projects go for several weeks at a time, you will stand to make a profit renting instead of buying.

  1. Forklifts

Compared to the skid loader, the much larger forklift is much cheaper – which makes it a rather tempting prospect to purchase outright. However, it is also one of the most difficult pieces of construction equipment to store and maintain effectively. You will find that most companies rent forklifts rather than purchase them.

  1. Cement mixers

Last but not least, cement mixers are not expensive, but the price of renting is a fraction compared to the price of purchasing one brand new. A cement mixer also needs plenty of maintenance; something you will not have to worry about if you decide to rent rather than purchase.

While there are advantages to benefit from when it comes to purchasing construction equipment, it tends to bring with it an entirely new set of challenges to worry about. For businesses going from project to project, it would be a better idea to rent equipment only when needed, to make a tidier profit overall. Instead of having to consider constant storage and maintenance among other issues, consider renting equipment instead.
